Thank you for choosing Southern MS Motorcycle Training (SMMT) for your
motorcycle training needs. The primary goal of the Basic Rider Course(s) is to
provide an introduction to the fundamentals of being a safe and responsible bike rider.
It is recommended that participants enrolling in the Basic Rider Course have a valid driver’s license or
learner’s permit. It is important that participants have knowledge of the basic rules of the road, such as:
traffic signs and signals familiarity , Understanding right-of-way rules, and overall awareness of traffic
regulations as set forth in a state’s motor vehicle code. If a participant is under the age of 18, a parent or
legal guardian permission must be obtained in writing. It is recommended that a person enrolled be of
legal age to operate a motor vehicle on the state’s roads and highways and also be able to balance a two-
wheeled (bicycle).
The training course are held Friday-Sunday and are as follows:
Friday- approximately 4 hours of in-class lessons on from 6pm -10pm. (no later than 10pm)
Saturday & Sunday – 10 hours of riding instructions , inclusive break time over a 2 day period. Riding instructions begin on Saturday morning at 7am and ends no later than 5pm, and again on Sunday from 7am ends no later than 1pm.
Motorcycles will be provided for each participant. Participants must provide their own riding gear which
consists of a DOT certified helmet, long sleeves shirt or jacket, full fingered gloves, sturdy pants, sturdy
over-the-ankle foot wear and eye protection.
